Pay Range: $20.30 - $30.88

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for supervising and participating in the work of a crew of personnel responsible for the repair and maintenance of county roads, rights-of-way, and drainage structures.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Leads and directs crews in the maintenance of and repair of county rights-of-way and drainage easements.

  • Operates light and heavy equipment to install, repair, and clean culver pipes; cleans and maintain outfall ditches, drainage ditches, and drainage easements.

  • Operates light and heavy equipment in the maintenance of county rights-of-way and drainage systems, to include clearing brush and tree limbs, removing trees, and trimming.

  • Ensures that crews meet production expectations and schedules with quality results.

  • Enforces safety policies and procedures.

  • Oversees the maintenance of assigned truck, equipment, and tools.

  • Prepares locate requests before work projects.

  • Performs driveway inspections.

  • Trains crew members.

  • Sets and releases beaver traps; removes beaver dams.

  • Completes required paperwork.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Performs other work as required or when directed by administration.

  • In the event of an emergency, all Camden County employees are considered essential and may be required to perform alternate duties.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Road Maintenance Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include the employee handbook, department guidelines, and county policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of varied supervisory and technical duties. Inclement weather and heavy traffic contribute to the complexity of the position.

  • The purpose of this position is to supervise and participate in the work of a crew of personnel responsible for the maintenance and repair of county roads and drainage systems. Successful performance contributes to safe and well-maintained county infrastructure.

  • Contacts are typically with coworkers, contractors, vendors, and the general public.

  • Contacts are typically to exchange information, motivate persons, resolve problems, and provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.

  • The work is performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

This position has direct supervision over an assigned crew of personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.

  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class A commercial driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
