FLSA: Non-Exempt

Pay: $15.00 per hour

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the public safety and well-being of the participants in the Senior Center as well as assisting with all day-to-day activities of the Senior Center. Must be able to attend all scheduled group trips and functions outside of the center with the clients. Must be punctual and maintain regular attendance.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Assist with crafts, activities, events, and gardening.
  • Prepare coffee, setup dining area and serve food.
  • Maintain temperature records/logs.
  • Maintain cleanliness of dining room to include: cleaning tables, counters, sweeping and mopping.
  • Organize, set out equipment, and supplies as well as supervise the activities to increase enjoyment and prevent injury.
  • Explain rules of the activity and assist seniors.
  • Engage with seniors: i.e. communicate and actively listen.
  • Assists clients with any fund-raising activity such as craft sales, yard sales, dinner sales, bake sales, and other fund-raising activities.
  • Conduct outreach activities throughout the year to inform the elderly of the services the center provides.
  • Answers telephone calls, assists walk-in customers, and responds to inquiries, complaints and problems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Performs other work as required or when directed by administration.

  • In the event of an emergency, all Camden County employees are considered essential and may be required to perform alternate duties.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Senior Center Director assigns work in terms of department goals and objectives. The supervisor reviews work through conferences, reports, and observation of department activities.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include county ordinances, and county and department policies and procedures and safe food handling procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of varied administrative and customer service duties. The need to communicate and coordinate with a variety of stakeholders contributes to the complexity of the position.

  • The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Senior Center Director and patrons visiting the Senior Center.

CONTACTS

  • Contacts are typically with coworkers, other county employees, representatives from other organizations and members on the general public.

  • Contacts are typically to exchange information, resolve problems, motivate or influence persons, and provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee frequently lifts heavy objects, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.

  • The work is typically performed in an office. Occasionally work may be performed outside. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, and grease. Work requires the use of protective devices such as gloves, masks, etc.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.

  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
